Philip James Hedgecock is a classically trained sculptor specialising in portraits and figurative work.
“For me the human figure can express the endless depths of human emotion and narratives.
It is through the human form we primarily experience the world around us and much of what we communicate and express is not only done without words, and through our own physical expression, but can also be universal across time, continents and social dynamics.
I am looking to explore some of the innate themes of what it means to be human, the experience of being human in the world, and to that end for me the nude figure stripped of any modern day signifiers can be the purest expression of universal themes and I do my best to stay honest to that.”
I design and create bespoke sculptures for gardens, estates, and public spaces — pieces that bring rhythm, atmosphere, and timeless presence to a landscape. My work combines classical craftsmanship with a sensitivity to setting, ensuring each sculpture enhances its surroundings.
I also advise on the curation and placement of sculpture, helping clients consider light, movement, and perspective so their collection becomes an enduring part of the garden’s story.
📖 To share some of these ideas, I’ve written A Beginner’s Guide to Garden Sculpture. This free resource offers practical insights on curating a sculpture garden, choosing forms that complement their environment, and understanding how sculpture can transform outdoor spaces.
If you’re considering sculpture for your garden or estate, feel free to reach out. I’d be delighted to send you the guide and start a conversation about how sculpture could shape your space.
